Brian A. Aselton

Brian was raised in South Windsor, Connecticut, and graduated from South Windsor High School in 1990. After graduating from high school Brian enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, rising to the rank of Lance Corporal. In 1994, Brian enrolled at Manchester Community College in the criminal justice program in the hopes it would help him pursue his dream of becoming a police officer. In 1995 Brian interned with the Connecticut State Police Troop C in Tolland. In January of 1996 Brian was hired by the Hartford County Sheriff's Department as a special deputy. Brian served as a summer police officer in Barnstable, Massachusetts in 1996. The East Hartford Police Department hired Brian in 1997 assigning him badge number 251. Brian graduated with the 265th session from the Connecticut Police Academy on January 27th, 1998.

On January 23rd, 1999, Brian was dispatched to a "noise complaint" and unknowingly interrupted a violent robbery and home invasion in progress. Brian confronted the suspect in the apartment hallway. The suspect shot Brian in the head with a single 22 caliber round ending Brian's promising life at the age of 26. On January 26th, Hartford Police Officer Andrew Weaver made a routine traffic stop which revealed information leading to the arrest of Brian's murderer and his accomplices. Brian's murderer was arrested on January 27th and currently serves a life sentence. The Aselton Family is eternally grateful to the East Hartford Police Department, the Connecticut State Police, the Hartford Police Department, and all other agencies, too numerous to list, which assisted during the investigation.

On January 28th, 1999, Brian was laid to rest in Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor. It is estimated that 10,000 people, comprised of family members, friends, police officers, firefighters, ambulance personnel, military personnel, and others who just wished to pay their respects, attended the funeral.

Brian is survived by his mother, brother, and twin sister.  Brian comes from a family of public servants.  Many of Brian's family members served in the military including Brian's father Peter. Peter, who passed away in 2003, served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Brian’s cousin, Barnstable Massachusetts Police Officer Michael K. Aselton, was killed in the line of duty on March 29th, 1983, in a motor vehicle accident during a pursuit.  Brian has numerous other relatives who have served in law enforcement to include many municipal police departments in the United States and Canada, the Connecticut State Police, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.  Brian will be missed not only by his family but by everyone he touched. Peter was laid to rest next to his son.
