The Officer Brian A. Aselton Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. was established shortly after Brian's death to honor his life and memory. Brian was a Manchester Community College criminal justice student prior to being hired by the East Hartford Police Department. Scholarship applicants must be a child of an East Hartford, South Windsor, or Hartford police officer, or a Manchester Community College criminal justice student. A first year applicant must have a minimum 2.0 GPA during the last marking period and submit an essay explaining what receiving Brian's scholarship would mean to them. Applicants who apply in subsequent years must have a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Donations are graciously accepted and should be mailed to the Officer Brian A. Aselton Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc., PO Box 1441, Glastonbury, CT 06033, a non-profit scholarship fund exempt from federal income tax under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code and managed by an independent board of directors. Our tax identification number will be furnished upon request. Donations are tax deductible. Executive board members are volunteers and no salaries are paid. The executive board consists of President John Aselton, Vice President Heather Aselton, and Secretary Stephen Socolosky.
Contributions and net proceeds from events are transferred into the Brian A. Aselton Scholarship Fund, at The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, which is the community foundation for Greater Hartford and is a wholly separate entity governed separately from this Officer Brian A. Aselton Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. The Hartford Foundation holds this permanently endowed fund in memory of Brian and awards scholarships annually. Scholarships are paid directly to the college or university of each recipient.
