The Officer Brian A. Aselton Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. was established
in Brian’s name by his family shortly after his death to memorialize
Brian in an honorable and befitting manner. We want to ensure
Brian’s name lives on and everyone remembers the supreme
sacrifice he made. Everyday police officers go to work knowing
they may have to make the ultimate sacrifice for their communities.
Brian believed in education and was a Manchester Community
College criminal justice student prior to being hired by the East
Hartford Police Department. We believe, as Brian believed,
that young people further themselves and society through education.
Eligibility requires an applicant to be the child of an East
Hartford, South Windsor, or Hartford police officer, or be a
Manchester Community College criminal justice student.
An applicant also must have a minimum 2.0 GPA or “C” average during
the last marking period, and submit an essay explaining what
receiving a scholarship in Brian’s name would mean to them.
Donations are gratefully accepted and should be mailed to The
Officer Brian A. Aselton Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc., a
non-profit scholarship fund exempt from federal income tax under
501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and managed by an
independent board of directors. The mailing address for the
Officer Brian A. Aselton Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. is PO
Box 1441, Glastonbury, CT 06033. Our tax identification number
will be furnished upon request. Donations are tax deductible.
All executive board members are volunteers and no salaries are
paid. The executive board includes: John Aselton, President;
Heather A. Aselton, Vice President; Stephen Socolosky,
Treasurer.Contributions and net
proceeds of events are transferred into the Brian A. Aselton
Scholarship Fund, at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving,
which is the community foundation for Greater Hartford and is a
wholly separate entity governed separately from this Officer
Brian A. Aselton Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. The Hartford
Foundation holds this permanently endowed fund in memory of
Brian and awards scholarships annually at the recommendation of
the executive board of the Officer Brian A. Aselton Memorial
Scholarship Fund, Inc. Scholarships are paid directly to the college
or university of each recipient.
